Dr. Hyder is a pathologist specializing in oncology and medical director of Compass Diagnostic Laboratory Services. While he seldom meets with patients directly, he is a vital member of their multidisciplinary team. Dr. Hyder was recruited to join Compass in 2008 because of his advanced expertise and innovative vision to take pathology out of an isolated lab and embed it in the care team. His role goes far beyond looking through a microscope to find a diagnosis. His direct involvement in patient care allows him to integrate information from a wide variety of tests, interpret them with full knowledge of the oncologist’s clinical findings and collaborate with the team to efficiently develop a personalized treatment strategy.

Outside of work Dr. Hyder ‘s top priority is his family and four grandchildren followed by a passion for music he expresses as a member of a performance band.

Dr. Tseng specializes in gynecologic oncology and pelvic surgery and is the Chief Medical Officer of Compass Oncology. He is a gifted surgeon and a pioneer in minimally invasive surgery. In 1990, he performed the first laparoscopic hysterectomy in Oregon. Later, in 2008, he and his colleagues were first to use robotic surgery to treat gynecologic cancers. Today, he is active in training young surgeons and advancing clinical trials research for gynecologic cancers. Among Dr. Tseng’s many strengths is his ability to listen to his patients, to think about them long-term and help them become active, confident participants in decision-making for their care.

Dr. Tseng is married and the father of three children. He enjoys snowboarding, is an avid bike rider and has participated in medical missions in Honduras, Niger and Mexico.

He is very active in The US Oncology Research Network, serving as a member of the national GU Research Committee and as principal investigator for many Phase II and Phase III studies. As GU Chair of the US Oncology Pathways Task Force, he is responsible for developing GU cancer treatment guidelines for physicians nationally. These facts speak to Dr. Schnadig’s practice philosophy of applying the most current and innovative thinking to help patients choose therapies and clinical trials targeted to their specific tumor characteristics.

Biography

Dr. De La Melena is a breast surgical oncologist specializing in the surgical management of breast cancer and benign breast disease. She has a special interest in oncoplastic techniques, including skin and nipple sparing mastectomies. Having been part of a general surgery practice for a number of years, Dr. De La Melena has a unique perspective on the special concerns of breast cancer patients. Her practice philosophy hinges on the belief that the best breast cancer care is a partnership and team effort between patient, surgeon, nurses and physicians from different oncology specialties. Each brings a unique perspective, energy and enthusiasm to treatment planning which leads to improved outcomes.

He was drawn to medicine at a young age during treatment for a blood disorder. The need to care for people is an integral part of Dr. Braun’s personality. Both his grandfathers and his father were ministers. His patients always come first and he is there for them long-term, medically, spiritually and emotionally. He genuinely enjoys getting to know each patient, who they are as people and what’s important in their lives. With this understanding, he is able to work with the team to develop appropriate treatment plans for patients that still let them live their lives.
